What Am I To Believe?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

It is really getting hard for me to understand after 57 years who is right and who is wrong on many issues when it comes to the ingredients used in personal care products. I have been told conflicting stories from both sides of the mouth from the same person as they contradicted themselves on ingredient issues.

It is hard to separate fact from fiction and try to sort out what information you need to make the best educated decision for the health and safety of your customers when the information is so distorted on both sides. What’s a guy to do? How do we know if Phthalates, Parabens, BPA’s, SLS and  whole list of other ingredients are OK to use in your personal care products.  There are dueling studies one saying ” no negative health effect” and the other stating ” avoid at  any cost”.  While I do not expect all research to to be 100% conclusive there seems to be too much gray and contradictions for anyone to really know what is right and what is wrong. I personally do not think anyone or any company has this 100% right even us.   I have a bias that big companies seem to dominate and spin rooms and make smaller companies look less credible on these issues.   Sometimes it is like David and Golieth. One example we see everyday is when it comes to supplements and vitamins….BIG PHARMA has so many studies that contradict the benefits of supplements. Instead of hiding our head in the sand,  we have made the best decision we can, when in doubt we will not use the ingredient.

To help us make the right decisions, we have taken the ” precautionary principle approach”whereby we will not use ingredients in our products if there is a reasonable doubt for your health and safety. Even though we are not 100% sure an ingredient can cause any harm, we will re-engineer the products without them.  Our goal is to give you greener, cleaner and safer natural body care  for you, the planet and nature. So at the end of the  day we do not use SLS, Phthalates, Parabens and a list of other ingredients” since we are in doubt, we will do without!”
